What Are The Risks Of A Residential Clinical Trial - Flucamp

YOUR SAFETY IS OUR NUMBER ONE PRIORITY

  • Before you agree to stay at FluCamp, we will explain the whole study to you and any potential risks. We answer any questions/concerns you may have. You are free to withdraw from any study at any point if you change your mind.
  • We operate a strict health screening process; only those who are 100% suitable can take part.  Even if there are even minor concerns, volunteers may be excluded for their own health and safety.
  • Highly trained clinical teams work in our two screening units and our quarantine unit. Doctors are on call 24/7, even when you have gone home, to provide support and assistance if in the unlikely event that you feel unwell.

Monitoring your health throughout the trial

We use what’s called a human challenge model of clinical trial. This means we monitor our volunteers throughout the whole cycle of the illness, from their initial healthy state to infection and back to health again.

This allows us to get a whole picture of the infection process and to make sure you are not discharged from your stay until there is no trace of the illness left in your system.

The chart shows how you are assessed daily during the clinical trial. We analyse a blood sample from you each day, from your initial entry to the quarantine centre, through to your inoculation with the cold or flu virus and your treatment and then throughout your recovery period.

We also invite you to a follow-up visit usually a month after your discharge as an extra safeguard for you.
