RSV Vaccine Clinical Trials.

Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) is a common virus that can cause those infected to experience cold-like symptoms. Whilst many people recover within a week or two, some groups can be particularly at risk including young babies and the elderly. Our RSV vaccine clinical trials aim to further understand how this virus affects vulnerable groups whilst evaluating the effectiveness of potential vaccines and treatments.

How do RSV Vaccine clinical trials work?

Typically our trials last between 11-15 days. You will reside in our state-of-art quarantine facility in Canary Wharf and you will be given a private room. Each en-suite room is equipped with a range of amenities including a flat-screen TV, PlayStation 5 and WiFi to make your stay with us as comfortable and as enjoyable as possible.

During the clinical trial, you will receive a small dose of the RSV virus. Following this, an RSV medicinal treatment or vaccine will be administered to you. Over the course of your stay with us, you will be monitored under close medical supervision as we evaluate the effect of the virus on your body and the effectiveness of the treatment to fight the virus. Before reaching FluCamp’s clinical trial stage, the vaccination or treatment you receive will have undergone rigorous testing to ensure its safety on humans.

Some volunteers may receive a placebo which is used to help us understand the real effects of a new treatment. You will not be made aware if you have received the placebo, however, your involvement and participation in the trial is still incredibly valuable.

follow the 5-step process to take part in a flucamp clinical trial

1 Step one

Website Application & Phone Call

Fill out our online form and our team will carefully review responses. If you meet the criteria for any of our current or upcoming clinical trials, we’ll reach out to you. If there isn’t a trial that fits right now, don’t worry—we’ll keep your information on file and notify you as soon as a suitable opportunity arises. We will keep checking for up to 2 years!

We will call you and our team will give you more information, ask additional medical questions and answer all your queries. If everything looks good, we’ll schedule your initial screening appointment.

2 Step two

1st Screening

You can attend your screening at either our London or Manchester facilities. The appointment typically lasts around 15 minutes, though it may take up to 1 hour. For your time and travel, you’ll receive a payment of £40. During this visit, we’ll check your blood for antibodies against common viruses, like the flu, to determine if your levels meet the study’s requirements. We’ll also obtain your consent to contact your GP for your medical history. For more information, visit our FAQ’s.

3 Step 3

Health Check

If your antibody levels match with a clinical trial we are booking for and your medical history is aligned with our eligibility criteria, we’ll contact you to schedule a health check—what we like to call a “full body MOT.” This can take 2-4 hours at our London or Manchester facilities, and you’ll be compensated £70 for your time and travel. The assessment may include an ECG, a full blood test, a lung capacity test, blood pressure measurement, and more. The goal is to ensure that our amazing volunteers are fit and healthy for the trial.

4 Step four

Your Invitation

All being well at the health check and we can match you to a clinical trial, you will receive an official invitation! This includes detailed information about the study and what to expect.

Your Admission

You will be welcomed to our trial facility in Canary Wharf. On admission day, we’ll conduct tests to confirm if you’re still eligible. You’ll have a private room with an en-suite, meals, snacks, TV, Wi-Fi, and a PlayStation 5. Depending on the trial you are matched to you may be given a virus and/or administered a vaccine or other medication. Trials are typically 11-15 days long and our caring staff will monitor you closely throughout. You could earn up to £4,400 for your participation!

5 Step five

Final Check-up

Normally around a month after the end of your clinical trial we’ll give you a final check-up. This is to make absolutely sure you are completely healthy. Some studies require more than one follow-up visit.

Am I Eligible for a RSV vaccine clinical trial?

Before being accepted onto a FluCamp clinical trial, you will be asked to take part in a screening process which will include a review of your medical history. This is an important step to ensure we correctly match our volunteers to the most appropriate trials. We will carry out the following:

  • Blood sample
  • Urine sample
  • Height and weight measurements
  • ECG (an electrocardiogram to listen to your heart’s rhythm)

Following this, our doctors will assess your eligibility and match you to an appropriate trial. You will then be invited to join FluCamp as a volunteer.

If you have any questions regarding your eligibility for our trials, please contact us.

RSV vaccine Clinical Trials FAQs

Unfortunately, you are unable to choose which clinical trial you take part in. The safety of our volunteers is critical and we only accept the lowest-risk volunteers in our trials. Through our thorough health screening process our doctors will evaluate your suitability and you will be matched up to the appropriate study.

Volunteers who receive a dose of a diluted virus may experience some mild cold or flu-like symptoms. Similarly, those who receive new medication may also experience some minor side effects from the treatment. We take great care in choosing the lowest-risk volunteers to take part in our studies and you will be closely monitored throughout to ensure your safety and comfort whilst taking part in the trial.

During the screening process, we will contribute towards any travel costs incurred. Those who attend the prescreening appointment will receive up to £40 and if eligible for the second screening, you will receive a further £70. The amount of compensation you receive for the trial itself will be determined by our independent ethics committee. This will be communicated to you within the informed consent form you receive prior to your participation in the trial.

  • Our offices are open Monday to Friday, 9am – 5pm and our telephone team are available Monday to Friday, 8.30am – 5.30pm. If you are interested in volunteering in one of our clinical trials or require further information, please call us on 0207 756 1414. Alternatively, you can email us at [email protected].

  • Taking part in a clinical trial can offer many benefits, and we know our volunteers sign up for various reasons. Our testimonials show just some of the motivations for people to sign up. Whether studying, working, or taking a break from both, FluCamp gives volunteers the benefit of being cared for in every regard whilst having plenty of ‘me-time’. FluCampers also choose to stay with us because they like to use the compensation reward towards travelling, a house move, or just for a financial boost.

We run clinical trials because we are dedicated to finding a cure for viruses like the flu. We welcome all fit and healthy volunteers, and appreciate what they are doing to aid our work towards finding a cure!

  • You can take part multiple times! You can do a trial with us every 3 months*. If you’ve taken part previously, and completed quarantine over three months ago you can re-apply via email at [email protected]. *Please note this is dependent on trial availability and participant eligibility.

  • We take great care in matching volunteers to an appropriate study. Once you’ve been invited to join FluCamp we’ll give you a detailed explanation of the trial we’ve allocated you to and then it’s up to you to decide whether to take part. Your choice does not impact on whether you would be eligible to take part in any future studies. FluCamp has a very strict health screening process to ensure that we only accept the lowest risk volunteers. As part of our volunteering process, we will check your medical history, and do some current blood, urine and ECG tests to establish your suitability. This allows us to make sure we are only recruiting volunteers who are healthy.

  • You can register with us at anytime! Before booking your first screening appointment we would recommend that you have good availabillity three months following this as this tends to be when the trial will take place. We know there may be some times in the year when volunteers have other commitments that may clash with FluCamp dates. If you can give us as much notice as possible, we’ll try our best to schedule visits and studies for times that you are available.
