At FluCamp we conduct a number of different clinical trials, including flu, asthma, RSV and Covid-19 paid clinical trials. With our flu clinical trials, our goal is to find effective treatments or prevention for the flu. We run clinical trials to find out how the flu works, how it affects people, and how it can be managed, treated or prevented.
Our flu trials typically last between 11-15 days. You will reside in our state-of-art quarantine facility in Canary Wharf and you will be given a private room. Each en-suite room is equipped with a range of amenities including a flat-screen TV, PlayStation 5 and WiFi to make your stay with us as comfortable and as enjoyable as possible. .
During the clinical trial, you will be given a diluted flu virus (which may cause some mild cold and flu-like symptoms). Depending on the type of clinical trial you may be given the diluted flu virus before so we can see how new medication fights the virus or after to see how effectively a potential vaccine protects you against it.
Before reaching FluCamp’s clinical trial stage it will have already been tested on humans and passed strict safety tests. Some volunteers may be administered a placebo which is used to determine the effectiveness of the active drug.

We will call you and our team will give you more information, ask additional medical questions and answer all your queries. If everything looks good, we’ll schedule your initial screening appointment.
You can attend your screening at either our London or Manchester facilities. The appointment typically lasts around 15 minutes, though it may take up to 1 hour. For your time and travel, you’ll receive a payment of £40. During this visit, we’ll check your blood for antibodies against common viruses, like the flu, to determine if your levels meet the study’s requirements. We’ll also obtain your consent to contact your GP for your medical history. For more information, visit our FAQ’s.
If your antibody levels match with a clinical trial we are booking for and your medical history is aligned with our eligibility criteria, we’ll contact you to schedule a health check—what we like to call a “full body MOT.” This can take 2-4 hours at our London or Manchester facilities, and you’ll be compensated £70 for your time and travel. The assessment may include an ECG, a full blood test, a lung capacity test, blood pressure measurement, and more. The goal is to ensure that our amazing volunteers are fit and healthy for the trial.
All being well at the health check and we can match you to a clinical trial, you will receive an official invitation! This includes detailed information about the study and what to expect.
You will be welcomed to our trial facility in Canary Wharf. On admission day, we’ll conduct tests to confirm if you’re still eligible. You’ll have a private room with an en-suite, meals, snacks, TV, Wi-Fi, and a PlayStation 5. Depending on the trial you are matched to you may be given a virus and/or administered a vaccine or other medication. Trials are typically 11-15 days long and our caring staff will monitor you closely throughout. You could earn up to £4,400 for your participation!
Normally around a month after the end of your clinical trial we’ll give you a final check-up. This is to make absolutely sure you are completely healthy. Some studies require more than one follow-up visit.

Once all stages of screening have taken place and our doctors are satisfied with the results, you may then be invited to join FluCamp as a volunteer for one of our flu clinical trials. If you are better suited for a different clinical trial, then you may be asked to participate in that clinical trial study instead.

Will I experience any side effects by taking part in a flu clinical trial?
If you successfully pass our screening process and become one of our quarantine volunteers you will be given a diluted flu virus so it’s likely that they may experience some mild cold or flu like symptoms. We often then test a new medication that we would like to fight the virus. If we are testing a new medicine, volunteers may experience some minor side effects. However, before reaching FluCamp, the medication will have already been tested on humans and passed strict safety tests.

You can take part multiple times! You can do a trial with us every 3 months*. If you’ve taken part previously, and completed quarantine over three months ago you can re-apply via email at [email protected]. *Please note this is dependent on trial availability and participant eligibility.
We take great care in matching volunteers to an appropriate study. Once you’ve been invited to join FluCamp we’ll give you a detailed explanation of the trial we’ve allocated you to and then it’s up to you to decide whether to take part. Your choice does not impact on whether you would be eligible to take part in any future studies. FluCamp has a very strict health screening process to ensure that we only accept the lowest risk volunteers. As part of our volunteering process, we will check your medical history, and do some current blood, urine and ECG tests to establish your suitability. This allows us to make sure we are only recruiting volunteers who are healthy.
You can register with us at anytime! Before booking your first screening appointment we would recommend that you have good availabillity three months following this as this tends to be when the trial will take place. We know there may be some times in the year when volunteers have other commitments that may clash with FluCamp dates. If you can give us as much notice as possible, we’ll try our best to schedule visits and studies for times that you are available.
