Health and fitness apps - Who is the best of the best? - Flucamp

Following a recent ComRes Poll, the most common resolutions were to exercise more, lose weight, eat more healthily and to have an overall more active approach to health. However, as we journey further into 2018, the keeping of new year resolutions can be a difficult task, specifically if your resolutions are exercise or health based!

Whilst in previous years, we’ve only had our own perseverance to keep us on track. Now, in 2018, the rise of health and fitness apps is here to help us achieve our resolutions. Here are some of the best health and fitness apps available.

For the Beginners

Couch to 5K’ is a fantastic app for those who want to start running but don’t know where to start. It features a free eight-week process for users, providing three workouts per week. The idea is that, with a simple start that gradually grows to test you, the user will be able to work their way up to participating in races. This allows you to find your ground rather than pushing yourself too hard.

This app is intended for a large and varied audience as it aims to reach anyone who would like to get fitter and healthier, and, as it requires little in terms of equipment and effort, it is quickly becoming a popular health and fitness app.

For the Do-Gooders

The ‘Charity Mile’ app is not only great for health and fitness, it’s also a great way to do good. The idea behind this app is that for every mile that you walk, run or bike the app tracks your distance and corporate sponsors donate money to your chosen charity. This can even be incorporated into your everyday routine as even walking your dog or riding your bike means that you’re helping to earn money for charity, all the while making yourself more active. They have a range of over 30 charities to choose from and have already earned over £1.7M!

For Yourself

Happify’ is an app that is beneficial for your mental health. Based completely on how you feel, Happify is built to use efficient tools and programs that give you the chance to take control of feelings and thoughts. When you first enter the app, you have to choose a ‘track’ to follow which is dependant on what your overall goals are. Created with the science of happiness in mind, this app then provides you with activities and games that allow you to experience more mindfulness, achieve your daily goal and improve your outlook on the day. So far the results of the app show that 86% of frequent users experience more happiness.

For the Calorie Counters

Calorie Counter & Diet Tracker by My Fitness Pal’ has shown time and time again that it is the king of calorie counting apps. This app allows you to track the calories you’re consuming through its extensive database of over 5 million foods. The app also allows you to track how many calories you are burning, from general activities (like walking to work) and exercise.

The social features of the app also provide you with an opportunity to share how well you are doing with other users. My Fitness Pal is compatible with over 50 devices and apps, including devices like Fitbit. This is so that you are able to measure your progress on various platforms with ease.
